Discovering, Developing, and Delivering Knowledge

ACES

The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences improves the lives of New Mexicans through academics, research, and Extension. These three elements comprise the land-grant mission. We train students to be leaders in food production, environmental stewardship, family health, economic development, and related fields. Our research scientists discover solutions for agricultural and natural resource management needs throughout the state. Our Extension educators deliver knowledge and skills to improve the lives of all New Mexicans.

Discovering New Knowledge

The College’s academic departments help students discover new knowledge in food and fiber production, water use and conservation, the health of all New Mexicans, and environmental stewardship. We offer 22 undergraduate degree programs—14 of which are offered nowhere else in New Mexico.

Our faculty of award-winning teachers, researchers, and Extension educators have a strong commitment to serving the citizens of New Mexico and to extending the benefits of our research and collaborative efforts throughout the world. Because ACES encompasses vibrant communities of employers, faculty, alumni, and current students who work with real concerns of people, our students find rewarding careers in every corner of our nation and world.

Developing Solutions from Transformative Research

The Agricultural Experiment Station (aces.nmsu.edu/aes) is the research arm of the College. The 12 agricultural science and research centers across the state develop solutions to challenges posed by New Mexico’s unique environmental conditions, and work to meet the agricultural and natural resource management needs of communities in every part of the state.

Delivering Knowledge to Improve Lives

The Cooperative Extension Service (extension.nmsu.edu) is the outreach arm of the College, providing practical, research-based knowledge and programs to improve the lives of all New Mexicans. With offices in every county in New Mexico as well as three Tribal Extension offices, Extension delivers community education in the areas of agriculture and natural resources, consumer and family issues, youth development, and community and economic development.
